Converse will introduce later this year the Chuck Taylor Cup, which is a new version of their iconic sneaker with a newly added cup sole. They present both the low top and high top Chuck Taylor Cup and these will be dropping later this year.

Converse is always a cool collection to enjoy. Over the years, they have still been a simple must-have in your closet. Even if you just want to run out for a quick bite to eat with some friends or even get spruced up, but still keep it really casual…Chucks are there. They just recently held a showcase/scavenger hunt in New York, starting at the Chelsea Hotel. One thing I love about the classic shoe line is that they are always coming with fresh and new ideas and designs, so that the traditional look is still in place, just with a little twist. Converse Japan has a lot of releases lined up for January 2010, their first drop for the new year. The Chuck Taylor All Star comes in a variety of new colorways, including some more classic polka dot designs, a pop art inspired series, as well as a more classic pack with brown leather details. The metallic croc pack has a real Christmas look to itself.

The Jack Purcell comes in some classic washed out colorways, in two check colorways and also in an interesting new mid version. Other interesting releases include the Skidgrip, a sneaker that recently emerged again as part of a Huf collaboration.

We knew that The Clash were adding their insignias to some Chucks, and the Ramones collabo a couple years back was a no-brainer. But Blondie?! Actually, take a look at the hightop Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars in this collection that’s soon to hit retailers, and you’ll get a sense for how much of what is hot in youth-oriented graphic design today (especially fashion), was inspired and influenced by the early 80s (btw, is that Debbie Harry or a dressed down Lady Gaga?). There are also two lowtop All Stars that will have you thinking of fellow old school punk scene sellout collaborator Malcom McLaren. Just like the Clash kicks, check your local Converse retailers for these today.

We caught a glimpse of these amongst the rest of Converse Japan’s January 2010 dossier last week, and now, a closer look at the Marine Sea Dot Hi. ‘Dot’ denotes the polka variety, which are carefully concealed on your sockliner and only peek out around the collar. This nicely compliments monochromatic white, purple and black uppers, all atop a white cupsole. These are on shelves at Converse Japan retailers, but they won’t last.

Kurt Cobain x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star – Spring 2010

Since this is a guy who apparently decided that fame and corporate branding weren’t all that great, Kurt Cobain sneakers have very little margin for error. In fact, if pretty much any other company else made these, anyone old enough would pull an instructive SMH in the direction of the young heads. However, Cobain himself did rock Converse pretty much exclusively while he was in the public eye, so a second ‘collab’ with the One Star carefully toes the line.

There are two pairs of Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars in black/grey flannel, a look that transmutes recent fashion trends into the dominant pattern during the grunge era. Both say ‘punk rock means freedom’ on the lower side panels, a phrase that also appears on a simple black hightop pair of Chucks. There’s also one white lowtop pair, unique with its use of Kurt’s own drawings. A must for any Nirvana fan, these are set to serve the servants soon; check your local Converse retailer.

Sometimes I forget what a privilege it is to see the best retro styled trainers from the World’s leading trainer brands 6 months ahead of launch. After many years as Trainerstation buyer I guess it is just something that I take for granted as part of being in the business.

However, just occasionally it gets personal, when I see something like these fantastic new Converse Ramones. The combination of Converse and The Ramones just works so well. Seeing one of my all time favourite bands treated with the respect they deserve and appearing on a pair of Converse in the near future reminds me how lucky I am to be able see this stuff so far ahead of launch. I thought it only fair to share a quick preview look at the styles we have booked.

Converse is releasing several colorways in the Star Player EV this Spring, which will compliment the timeless Chuck Taylor. They will be available in low and high ankle versions, and in colors such as black, white, navy, and off white. They all sport nylon uppers along with classic white soles, reinforced shoe lacing eyelets, and midsole ribbings. Look for them now at select Converse retailers worldwide, including Six Feet Down.

Converse and Comme des Garçons

”The collaboration was born out of Rei Kawakubo’s affection for a particular Chuck Taylor All Star model from the Converse archives that was originally produced in the Fifties for the U.S. Army. Using details from that model, Converse and Kawakubo came up with the four prototypes, which will retail for $100 each. Available at the end of August in Comme des Garçons stores in New York, Paris, London, Hong Kong and Seoul, including select retailers that sell Comme des Garçons Play, and in October, distribution will grow with a second launch in the same Comme des Garçons stores as well as top Converse retailers in the U.S., Canada and China.”
